Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Fighters Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing divine entities, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of characters who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.

This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might look mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing started the narrative’s action—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the secret base, attacking the character, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.

The traitor then settled his debts and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
  • Kattigan knows Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty environment.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could help the party access areas they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter pledged a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him wherever.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The cleric defied the powerful family and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the family.

This results in them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in search of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

From episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to assemble the Explorers and Planners groups.

Fans can expect finding out which characters will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
